Reducing the depth of swimming pools makes the space more useable for bathers in line with modern swimming trends. It also saves money in reduced energy costs through reduced water volume meaning lower heating and chemical costs.
There are two options when it comes to the infill, the void can either be filled with a lightweight foam voidfill concrete or high density polystyrene blocks. They are both topped with a reinforced concrete slab tied into the tank.
The lightweight concrete is the better option for irregular shaped pools where the concrete can be pumped to fill the void.
The polystyrene option is the better option on pools where there is structural uncertainty or a history of issues. It reduces the load on the pool tank as the polystyrene blocks are lighter than the water which previously occupied the void.
The end result of both options is the same and the depth can be reduced to any height required by the client.
